How old must I be to be a contestant? You
need to be 18 years of age and above.
How many times can I enter? You can enter as
many times as you like. Please remember you must enter on your
own behalf. Calls made on behalf of someone else are declared
null and void.
How many times can I appear on the
programme? You can be one of the 8 contestants as
many times as you wish. However, you can be the hot seat
contestant only once in a lifetime. (see how to play the
game)
How would the price money be paid? The amount
due to you will be paid to you by cheque or remittance into
your account within 2 weeks of the programme being
aired.
If I am one of the 100 contestants selected at random
when will I be called? You will be called between 12
noon on the Tuesday of the week before and 12 noon on the
Thursday preceding the Saturday recording.
What happens if my number is selected and I'm not in
when the researcher from "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”
calls? Don't worry. Our researchers will make
repeated attempts to call you till as close to the recording
day as possible. If someone else in your household or
workplace answers, our researcher will leave a message asking
you to call them on a certain number. If they have not managed
to make contact with you by the Thursday before the recording,
they will have to move on to the next telephone number on
their list.
Will I have to take a whole day off for the
show? You will need to spend the whole day at the
GETTV studios and we invite most people from outside Lagos
state to actually arrive at their hotel the evening before.
All contestants are expected to arrive early on the day of the
recording. This is because there are several procedures we
need to perform such as wardrobe, camera and identity checks,
all of which take up a considerable amount of time. It also
means you get a valuable opportunity to experience the “Who
Wants to Be a Millionaire?” studio before recording begins.
You will have the chance to play 'Fastest Finger First' and
experience what it is like to sit opposite the host under the
dazzling lights, as you answer several practice questions.
Can I bring along my friends when coming for the
show As a contestant, you are entitled to bring in
family or a friend who will be there to give you moral support
but not help you in answering your questions. The friend will
be admitted in for free, no need to get an audience
ticket.
Who writes the questions for the show? A
dedicated team of full-time question setters are employed to
write the questions for the programme. Along with the host, it
is up to them to give the show a distinctly Nigerian flavour.
As well as the questions with a monetary value attached, the
question setting team also has to write the initial qualifying
questions and the “Fastest Finger First” questions. Each question
must be worded carefully in order to avoid confusion for
contestants, studio and home audience.
Can I enter if I have been convicted or have a
criminal record? You are not eligible to enter. The
decision to exclude anyone with a criminal record was not
taken lightly. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is a family
show. The view taken was that there is a need to be sensitive
to victims of crime by endeavouring to ensure that the
television programme itself does not give the impression of
condoning criminal activity. Taking into account the fact that
members of the public pay a premium rate for their entry
telephone calls, we felt it necessary for us to be
particularly sensitive to the majority of the callers who take
part in the competition. In addition, we may refuse to pay
winnings or reclaim sums paid if it is discovered that the
contestant was not eligible to play or has been
dishonest.
How do I get help if I have an idea about the answer
but not sure? Here, you can use any of the three
available lifelines - “fifty-fifty”, “Phone-a-friend” and “Ask
the Audience”. (for details, see how to play).
How many 'Ask the Audience' keypads are
there? There is a keypad for every member of the
audience. The seating capacity of the studio is 103.
How many “Phone-A-Friend” friends am I allowed? You
may select up to five friends. When you are getting
the confirmation that you have been selected to be a
contestant on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, you will be
asked to begin to think of 5 friends that may be of help to
you during the show if you get into the hot seat. You will be
required to tell your friends before you come in to the
studio and you will give the names of these friends when you are
completing your attendance form at the studio. If you are lucky
enough to make it into the hot seat, even before you answer
your first question, your friends are called in order to make
sure they are standing by their telephones should you be
required to call any one of them. (for more details, see how
to play the game)
