(A) Description
Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire?, the Television quiz programme, is a
one-hour on-air general knowledge quiz programme. To qualify
to become a contestant on the program individuals
must: Call or send an SMS to 132 from an MTN
line. (for MTN subscribers only)
Answer correctly, a general knowledge
multiple-choice question.
(B) Definitions
ULTIMA Limited ,owners of the license for the programme
in Nigeria.
General Entertainment
Television Productions Limited, the organizers of the
Competition and a sister company of ULTIMA Limited.
Any person who enters
the Competition in accordance with the rules
That part of the Competition which takes
place in the studio whether or not it is recorded for
transmission.
The recordings of the
Studio Part of the Competition (including any Special Episode
recording).
Any episode of
the programme specially recorded to celebrate a specific
event, group of people or time of the year.
The date of
recording of the programme in question.
ULTIMA Studios, Plot 45
Omole Industrial Layout, Isheri/Ogba Junction, Ogba, Ikeja,
Lagos or any such other studio as the Producer may
nominate.
The three methods of
assisting the Contestants during the Programme, namely the
"50/50" option; the "Phone a Friend" option and the "Ask the
Audience" option, the precise details of which and method of
use are available on the website and will be explained during
the programme.
(C) Eligibility:
Contestants must be citizens or residents of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Contestants must be citizens or residents of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Contestants must be resident in Nigeria and
must be able to travel to the Studio, situated at Plot 45
Omole Industrial Layout, Ogba/Isheri Junction, Ogba, Ikeja.
Contestants must be 18 years of age and above
Employees, their immediate family members
(spouse, mother, father, daughter, son, sister, brother and
their spouses), and those living in the same household, of
ULTIMA Limited ,General Entertainment Television Productions Limited, all "Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire" production personnel, advertising
agencies or any person or entity directly connected with the
production, administration, or any of their respective parent
companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents or representatives
are not eligible. Staff members of the co-sponsoring
companies, directly involved with the delivery of the programme including the staff directly responsible for the
telephone service. In addition, individuals acquainted with
any persons who are or have been connected with the
production, administration or transmission are not eligible,
if in the Company or Producer's, discretion, the individual's
participation could create the appearance of impropriety.
Where necessary, our legal department will on a case-by-case
basis, review cases to determine eligibility of contestants.
Any Contestant who appears on the programme as
a "Hot Seat Contestant" is not eligible to appear on the
programme again. However, The Company reserves the right to
invite back any Hot Seat Contestant(s) from the Program or any
Contestant(s) who played the Game on the Programme for special episodes of the Programme at the Game Company's sole
discretion.
(D) How to Enter Every person,
desiring to participate in the programme will be required to
execute correctly, the entry procedure as follows:
STEP 1 Call 132 or send by
text message your
Name, Location, Telephone Number to 132 to get the question
for N200
STEP 2 Call or Text as
advertised and follow the voice prompt or text prompt
instructions respectively .
STEP 3 Answer correctly, a
general knowledge multiple-choice question.
STEP 4 If you answer
correctly, you will be asked to provide your name, contact
telephone number, and location . This data will be stored in
our database and will be used for the computerized random
selection process, the next stage for possible participation
on the programme.
STEP 5 The random selection of
contestants by the customized Random Number Generator (RNG)
will be carried out on a daily basis, between shows.
STEP 6 In the event that your
name is selected, you will be telephoned on the number you
have provided at a reasonable time on any day until such a day
and time that we have determined would allow enough room for
you to attend the recording. If successful contact is made,
the telephone conversation may be recorded .
The contestant will be asked to confirm if they will comply with
the Rules (and be advised of where to obtain copies). In the
event that a Contestant cannot attend on the given date, the
Company is regretfully unable to offer an alternative
Show Date.
if the Show Date is agreed ,the contestant
would then be asked one or more additional general knowledge
question, which may or may not have multiple-choice answers.
Subject to the fulfillment of the conditions of the Rules,
those eight Contestants and the back-up in respect of each
Show who have given the correct or the closest correct
answer(s) will be asked to participate in the Studio Part of
the Competition on the recording date.
Contestants are told the approximate date and
time when they will be telephoned again in the event of their
successfully answering the further general knowledge question(s) so as to arrange for their attendance at the
Studio on the Agreed Show Date.
STEP 7 Upon successful contact
and agreement with Contestants as to the arrangements for such
Contestants' attendance at the Studio:
i. Contestants must arrive at the Studio between 8am and
9am (or any other specified time) on the recording date.
ii. Contestants must bring a relative and a friend who
will join the Studio Audience of the Show.
iii. For those coming from outside Lagos and environs, a
reasonable amount will be reimbursed to subsidize your travel
expense. No fee will be paid for any attendance at the Studio
or in respect of any loss of earnings thereby incurred.
STEP 8 In the event of the
failure of any Contestant to attend the Studio by the
aforesaid time for any reason whatsoever the Company shall be
entitled to exclude such Contestant(s) from the Show and the
Studio Part of the Competition.
STEP 9 There are two reserve Contestant for each show who will be selected,
contacted and arrangements made for their attendance on the
recording date in accordance with the procedures outlined
above and who shall be entitled to take the place of
Contestants in the event that for whatever reason, contestants
are unable to take part in the relevant
show.
(E) The Studio Part of the
Competition
i. Each Show Player selected in accordance with the
procedures specified below shall be entitled to answer up to
fifteen general knowledge questions with multiple-choice
answers so as to afford him/her the opportunity of competing
for the sum of N10 Million. The questions will be divided into
three different categories with the third category being the
most difficult while the first will be the least
difficult.
ii. On the recording date Contestants will be met at the
Studio by a representative of the Company. Contestants will be
required to sign an agreement in standard form for
contributors to television programmes and shall include (a)
their confirmation that they have understood and agree to the
Rules and (b) their consent to the recording of their
contribution to the Show in question, and thereafter to the
broadcast and all other audio visual exploitation of this and
to the publication of his/her name and photograph in all
media.
iii. Upon commencement of each Show (or if a Show Player
(as defined below) is in the middle of play from the preceding
Show following the end of play by such a Show Player) the
eight Contestants for the Show in question will be asked to
compete with one another by answering a multiple general
knowledge question .The Contestant answering correctly in the
fastest time will go forward to answer up to a further fifteen
general knowledge questions ("The Show Player") in return for
cash prizes.
iv.
a) The Show Player will be shown each question together
with the four multiple-choice answers in advance of deciding
whether he/she wishes to continue play. Prior to answering any
question, a Show Player may withdraw from the Competition and
retain all cash so far won notwithstanding the use of one or
more of the Lifelines (provided for the avoidance of doubt the
question has not been answered).
b) If a question is
incorrectly answered the Show Player will lose all winnings
in the category in which he/she is currently playing but
will retain the winnings arising out of his/her success in
the preceding category and will thereafter be disqualified
from further entry to the Competition.
c) The Show Player will be entitled to use each of the
three Lifelines on one occasion only and may be used either
individually in respect of any question or collectively in
respect of the same question in any one of three categories.
For the avoidance of doubt in the event that the "Phone a
Friend" Lifeline is used, the friend shall have no claim upon
the Company of whatsoever nature. The persons used as friends
in the "Phone a Friend" lifeline shall be subject to the
Company's reasonable discretion.
In the event that a Show Player withdraws or answers a
question incorrectly the remaining Contestants for the Show in
question may be invited by the Company (in its sole
discretion) to participate in the same procedure set out in
iii) above for that Show only and the successful Contestant
will become the Show Player. In the event that any Show Player
has not yet completed his/her opportunity to answer up to
fifteen questions and the Company determines (in its sole
discretion) that sufficient material for the Show in question
has been recorded such Show will come to an end and the Show
Player must appear in the following Show. The Company shall
have no responsibility by reason of any variation in the
length of the Studio Part of the
Competition.
General Rules
You may enter as many times as you wish but can
only appear as a Hot Seat Contestant ONCE in a lifetime. Any
person who has appeared as a Show Player CANNOT be a part of
the programme again.
Persons must not confer with others when
answering questions and must enter the Competition on their
own behalf. Entries by proxy will not be accepted. A Show
Player must not leave the set unless told by the Company to do
so.
The Company may in its sole discretion exclude
Contestants from participation in the Studio Part of the
Competition which may include without limitation (i)
circumstances in which in the Company's view render
Contestants unfit to participate therein; (ii) inability to
produce documentation specified by the Company proving the
identity of the Contestant.
The Company may refuse to pay winnings or
reclaim all sums paid to Show Players in the event of his/her
fraud, dishonesty or non-entitlement to participate in the
Competition under the Rules.
In the event of any fault, misunderstanding or
dispute concerning the operation of any part of the
Competition, and/or the operation of the telephone system, or
the validity of any answer, the decision of the Company shall
be final.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the
Company reserves the right to amend the Rules or terminate the
Competition at any time which amendment/termination will be
published and shall be applicable as from the date of such
publication (without Contestants having any claim on the
Company).
All Contestants agree to abide by the Rules
including these General Rules.
If the operation of the Competition (including
without limitation the operation of the telephone system); the
recording; broadcast of any/all of the Shows is affected by
circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Company or
is prevented by reason of any actual, anticipated or alleged
breach of any law or applicable regulations, the Company may
cancel all or any part of the Competition and Contestants
shall have no claim upon the Company.
Whilst the Company shall make all reasonable
endeavours to (i) enable Contestants to proceed with their
ideal Show (ii) to contact all Contestants at each relevant
juncture of the Competition, the Company can make no guarantee
therefore and the Company shall in its sole discretion be
entitled to proceed with the next entitled Contestant under
these Rules.
Notwithstanding a Contestant's participation in
the Competition ,there is no obligation on the part of the
Company, the Producer or the authorized airing television
stations to broadcast any Show in which he/she has taken part,
or any or all of his contribution as recorded by the Company.
Subject always to eligibility criteria, Contestants may make
multiple entries to the Competition and multiple applications
in respect of the same show. In the event that any such Contestant(s) is selected more than once for the same show
under the random selection process specified in clause "D STEP
4" above such Contestant will be entitled to answer the
further general knowledge question(s) once only.
The Company has endeavored to make reasonably
practicable arrangements to minimize Telephone and Internet
system difficulties but can make no guarantee thereof.
A competition bearing the same title as this
Competition may be promoted unknown to the Company, by a third
party. The Company bears no responsibility for any such
competition and accordingly it should not be confused with
this Competition.
Copies of the agreement referred to in E (ii)
can be downloaded from our website
